Have we ever needed a Summer more than this one ?
World events, political, social and environmental have occupied our minds each moment and we can feel worn out and helpless.
A starling returning with a worm to her nest every 5 minutes reminds me to do what I can.
Many are withdrawing their view to whatever is in front of them and getting on with living, just being… probably the best option right now.
I have found myself in my garden, delighting at the seedlings responding to longer day length and warmer days. I notice silver trails on my glasshouse meaning that snails are now busy at work, and butterfly’s are everywhere dancing through the air.
Having been part of setting up our local Rockfield Community Garden, I am keen to grow wildflowers, and vegetables for the weeks to come. My labeling system hasn’t t worked very well, so it s a guessing game…some plants mimic others have you noticed ?
Propagating new plants from old has become an obsession with me, as bought plants are so expensive so watch out, if I wander off down your patch with a secateurs in hand.
Having worked with those overcoming mental health challenges, addiction and dementia , I am convinced that being in the garden is wonderfully good for us as well as the world.
As David Attenborough has said, we can improve things world wide if we decide to protect our planet and it’s creatures by positive actions right now.
By engaging our minds, hearts and souls we must find a way forward, that benefits all.
Working together as in a Community Garden has a huge capacity for success, blending all our resources to find better ways to live.
